I had a great painting day today, I got some little ones done and then this one caught my fancy for today's painting and I really enjoyed it. My favourite bits are the dog on one side and the little girl on the other, both so full of expression.

I love the mauve(ish) clouds against the oranges on the ground plain in this vista. I imagine I'll paint it many times over!

One of the real rewards of this project is that you begin to develop good practices just by virtue of being in your studio so much. When I'm painting in my studio, I use a flat screen t.v. as my monitor . I have found that it's best to face the screen to do the drawing but that I get far better colour by swinging my easel sideways for the rest of the painting. What a great discovery!

This morning vista was shrouded in fog before the sun came out and lit it up. This can be a very windy part of the province so the trees lining the fields are really necessary.

Another moment at Ellis Bird Farm.  It changed so much through the day but just got more beautiful.

30 Paintings Collage

Well, this project is finished which leaves me feeling a little excited and a little sad.  If you have a picture you'd like to have painted in this style, you can get in touch on my website. The paintings are available until Feb 15th for $100. They are applied to a birch panel and are unframed.
I have so many ideas for the next project, I wonder what will sift to the top? It is February so there is still lots of time before plein air season. Some of these scenes will be painted on large panels for the Scotia Show.

Yeah, this is number 30 of the 30 in 30 challenge. Now the final bit of the challenge is to learn how to do a collage of the project so that's what I'm up to today and I'll post that as soon as I'm done.

May Snowstorm

This is the first painting in a series that I am painting this month as part of the 30 Paintings in 30 Days Challenge. It's biting off a fair bit to paint and post a painting each day but the benefits are tremendous. Focus on some learning goals, determination and a good reason to go to my studio in the cooler days of winter. It brought back wonderful memories painting this scene, none of could believe our eyes when we looked out the window and saw this big dump of snow in May!

I will put the paintings on my website but will hold them until the end of the month to enjoy them together for a day or two.
