Cuter Than Himself

10x10 Oil on Board
This little fellow made me laugh out loud as we were passing him in the dog park. He didn't seem at all surprised that I would want to take his picture. With every painting I have a feeling like an internal spark that makes me decide I have to paint it and when I can hold that feeling long enough to get it on canvas it's such pleasure. Pure fun!
An author, Denis Dutton, was interviewed on CBC this morning about his book The Art Instinct. He maintains it's no coincidence that we want to paint certain types of scenes or topics, they are imbedded in our psyche. I think if falls into the same category as kids and animals being cuter than themselves. It keeps people smiling at them. I hear about the best books on CBC!

I agree Tracey, there is nothing I like to better than to paint with CBC on. I usually make sure that I am at the easel by 10 am so that I can listen to Q with Jian Ghomeshi! I keep a pen at my side to capture what ever music/books sound interesting. Cute dog painting!

Thanks guys, I'm glad you like him! Sorry to be sooo long in getting to your comments. It seems impossible that it's been 3 weeks. I'll step it up a notch, I promise! Karen we finally have spring here. I thought about you yesterday when I was out painting at dinnertime with the warmth of the sun on my back. The light on the Ligularia seed pods was amazing.
Leslie, I hope the photo tip works in your light, I'd love to hear. I wish I could say I figured it out scientifically but it was a total fluke.
Thanks to all for posting.
